Investing in the future of the UAE
introduction
The launch of Warehouse421 falls in line with the vision of the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation which invests in the future of the UAE’s people through art and cultural initiatives.
The Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation’s mission is “to invest in the future of the United Arab Emirates by investing in its people.” To that end, it develops and supports strategic initiatives in the areas of Art, Culture and Heritage; Early Childhood Development; and Health. Established in 2010, the SHF is the family foundation of Her Highness Sheikha Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan.
Warehouse421 is an arts and cultural space located in Abu Dhabi’s historic Mina Zayed district. Converted from two former industrial warehouses, Warehouse421 is a hub for art and culture, design and creativity, performance and music, that seeks to make a unique contribution to the arts and cultural landscape of the UAE.
Through its year-round program of exhibitions and events, Warehouse421 showcases the work of local, regional and international artists, designers and performers, and provides a rare glimpse into the fascinating processes and techniques behind their creations.
Warehouse421 is also designed to meet the growing demand for more creative community spaces for people to meet, work, collaborate with others, and participate in social and cultural events. The SHF oversaw the design and construction of Warehouse421 prior to its opening in November 2015 and continues to support its programming, marketing and operations.

Project notes
Warehouse 421 launched during Abu Dhabi Art Week which then resulted into a super busy assignment overloaded non-stop shooting & editing time for us. It made totally sense to make use of the existing and present audience which were attracted by the Art Week in Abu Dhabi and the success and attendance of the launch event speaks for itself.
There were loads of exhibits, artists and their displays, concerts and activation going on. It was by far one of the best event setups I ever documented and visitors were truly excited by the incredible transformation of a simple industrial warehouse.
I would love to see more foundations taking ownership of deserted buildings or warehouses and transform them into arts & culture hubs benefiting the community.
